I'm starting to think that I've been fooling myself all these years. I'm an insecure extravert, that's gotta be it.

Had a great get together with local and not-so-local NaNo Folks last night . Usually I set myself up for failure with these things - I'm the kind of person who runs through scenarios over and over in my mind, imagining how they'll play out, and I'm invariably disappointed with Real Life. This was an exception, though - everybody was lively and talkative and friendly, and enjoyed the couple of little writing-related "games" I planned (I didn't want to overload people with games and activities, in case they weren't receptive, but they seemed to really get into it. Now I'll know for next time.) And we all shared some great food.

We're going to get together once more sometime mid-month, I think, and once again in December for a "Thank God It's Over" party. I think it's going to involve a keg. And I think it's going to be pretty frickin' awesome. I get the feeling this group is going to be a bit more cohesive than the ones from previous years - if all goes well we might get together once a month or so to talk writing and complain about edits.

(Herding writers IS like herding cats, incidentally - but in the end is worth it. Totally.)

In other news, I had my driving test this morning, which I'm happy to say I passed with flying colours. I am now a licensed driver. So I am now allowed out on the roadways by myself! Ph33r my l33t driving skillz!!1

Congrats on the driving test.

Our local Nano meetup thingy happens tomorrow. Playing games never occurred to me, and I have no idea what we're gonna end up doing.

Thanks!

One of the activities was really simple - I said, "There are three rules to writing a novel. Unfortunately, nobody knows what they are." Then I gave everybody an index card and made them write their own "three rules of novelling", and then we mixed them up (to preserve anonymity) and read them aloud. It was a hoot, and they were all really different and interesting (and, alternately, really silly.)

Thanks! Another thing to add to the "kick-ass stuff I've done this year" list.

I found out that there's a NaNo kick-off party at a pub about a mile up the street from me, this afternoon...and I emailed the person running it, and she said sorry but they're at capacity. :( But she says there will be other meetings/get-togethers, so I'm going to keep stalking the forum. *sigh*

Awww. Boo! Around here there's no such thing as "at capacity". If we have too many people for wherever we are, we move. But that isn't hard seeing as my "BIG get-together" comprised seven people. ;-)

I'm sure there will be plenty of other events, ones that are more important than the kick-off, even. Week two... that's when you'll probably need a boost. From past experience, it's always been the killer for me. *laughs*
