I went out of town last weekend and crashed another city's NaNo kickoff party. Damn you university-strong cities! They seem to effortlessly get the kind of crowds that I had to fight tooth and nail for. Anyway, despite the fact that I hate them so very much for this fact, they are completely awesome people and I had a really good time hanging out with them.
Then I spent a day running around said city with the friend I actually went to visit. We caught "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and even though we laughed our asses off, our general feelings were that it was a pretty lame movie. Lots of plot holes, surprisingly conservative views on sexuality... But the fun one-liners and seeing it in a large crowd of very one-liner-appreciative people made the experience fun, anyway. And then we got drunk while watching "High School Musical" and "High School Musical 2". (The drinking game: Drink every time there was a completely inauthentic high school type experience. Or something like that, anyway. We wound up just drinking whenever we felt like it because the movies were exactly what we figured they'd be: Disney made-for-TV shiny BS, and the drinking game rules would have had us on the floor in like twenty seconds.)
I've had a weird week. The hormones are all askew and things are really picking up for both school and the musical. I was going to go to the rehearsal on Saturday morning to listen to folks do the first sing-through with the band, but it's at NINE FREAKING THIRTY and I have already decided to spend Friday evening getting drunk on Rickard's White beer. (Which I'm drinking out of a Rickard's Red ale glass. OH THE IRONY! Or something.) My plan instead is to have my fun tonight, then spend tomorrow tucked away cozily in front of the computer in order to finish a couple of papers and do some noveling.
Oh yes, and on the topic of noveling, I have done my typical thing (three years running, now, I think) of starting to write one thing, then deciding after a few days to do something else. Because I'm a cheater I am keeping all of my wordcount to this point, but hey - it was all written in the spirit of NaNo, so I figure it's fair game.
The new plot (with a tip o' the hat to
magnifi_cat): A guy is fired from his job after they find out that he's been blogging (anonymously) about how much it blows. In desperate need of cash, he is swept up into the wedding-planner business of his best friend from high school, who has just been left by his boyfriend and former business partner. Amid the wacky hijinx of various particularly disasterous weddings, they fall in love. Awwwwwww. It's campy as hell and extremely fun and cathartic to write - which is EXACTLY what I needed this year. (And now I get to retroactively call my many hours of compulsive watching of "crazy people and their crazy weddings" shows RESEARCH! BWAHAHA!)
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some serious drinking to do.
