I'm posting from an internet terminal at the train station, about 20 minutes before I'll be boarding "The Ghan", which goes from Adelaide (in the very South of australia) to Darwin (at the very NORTH). I'm getting off half-way there, in Alice Springs, to spend a few days visiting national parks and that sort of thing.
As of yesterday I am officially homeless - I moved all of my junk into three bags (just three! Only one of which is all that big! And that one is being stored for a month until I'm ready to go home.) I wrote an entry about it over at Cass Down Under. I'm looking forward to this train ride, I love trains and I might even be able to sleep through some of the night (unlike a plane ride, wherein I am incapable of sleeping no matter HOW tired I am.) I went the cheap route and got a sleeper seat rather than a cabin with a little bed, because, well, I'm cheap. I've heard that they're quite comfortable, though, much better than a bus seat. But time alone will tell.
Argh, they're making an announcement but the loudspeaker system in here is terrible, I can't make out a thing he's saying. Better go make sure it doesn't have anything to do with me.
The next time you hear from me I'll be in the heart of Australia!
